John Srbely DC, PhD

"Dynamic Duo" Keynote Address:

Dr. Jay Shah and Dr. John Srbely Myofascial Trigger Points and Central Sensitization in Myofascial Pain Syndrome: Exploring their Enigmatic Pathophysiology, Dynamic Clinical Manifestations and Novel Strategies for Optimizing Patient Outcomes.

Dr. Shah and Dr. Srbely will present a mechanism-based approach to diagnosis and management, grounded in a neuro-segmental model and supported by innovative assessment tools like Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST). Attendees will gain practical insights into the clinical manifestations of MPS, learn to recognize objective markers of sensitization, and discover novel, evidence-based strategies to optimize patient outcomes. This session bridges cutting-edge science with real-world clinical application, equipping practitioners to transform chronic pain care in their own practices.

Dr. Shah, a leading physiatrist and Srbely, DC a renowned researcher in pain biomechanics and neurophysiology, will share the latest research on the pathophysiology of MPS, including the roles of neurogenic inflammation and degenerative joint disease.

Attendees will gain practical insights into mechanism-based diagnostic tools, such as quantitative sensory testing, and evidence-based treatment strategies.

John Srbely, DC, PhD University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1992 and received his PhD in biomechanics and neurophysiology in 2008 from the University of Guelph. He began his private practice in Guelph, Ontario Canada in 1992, where he developed a fascination for the clinical enigma of chronic musculoskeletal pain, particularly chronic myofascial pain.

His research interests focus on the neurophysiology of myofascial pain, more specifically the neuro-physiologic mechanisms of central sensitization and the impact of these mechanisms on the clinical presentation and pathophysiology of musculoskeletal pain.

Dr. Srbely's research program adopts a broad and integrative approach to the study of chronic musculoskeletal pain, incorporating both basic and clinical sciences. His research also aims to advance reliable diagnostic criteria (imaging, biomarkers) and physical assessment techniques (quantitative sensory testing, electromyography) that enable effective and reliable treatment and management strategies.

Dr. Srbely is actively collaborating with world-renowned physicists and has a specific interest in the study of pain and joint function associated with aging and chronic disease such as osteoarthritis, myofascial pain and fibromyalgia.

Join internationally recognized experts Dr. Jay Shah and Dr. John Srbely as they unravel the complex interplay between myofascial trigger points and central sensitization in Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS). This keynote will delve into the latest research on the pathophysiology of MPS, highlighting how neurogenic inflammation and central sensitization drive persistent pain and dynamic clinical symptoms.
