Ruthie Moss is an acupuncturist and herbalist, living and working in Hilo, Hawaii. She received her Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine in 2009 in Portland, OR, where she worked for several acupuncture clinics, as well as creating and managing a community acupuncture clinic for pregnancy and postpartum at the Alma Birthing Center. Ruthie was also on-call for acupuncture during labor at Alma, gaining valuable experience of acupuncture support during labor. In 2012 Ruthie moved to Hilo and opened her private practice. Ruthie focuses on structural health and pain management, and combines several styles of acupuncture: structural styles focusing on the muscle channels (named Jing Jin in Chinese Medicine), Japanese styles focusing on constitutional patterns, and classical Chinese medicine styles.

Over the years Ruthie has completed several certifications including Sport Medicine Acupuncture (SMAC), Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture, and the National Acupuncture Detox Association (NADA). Ruthie teaches at the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ICAOM) in Oahu for almost a decade and her clinic is part ICAOM’s externship program, where students can observe and intern as part of their Master’s degree.

Treatment of the upper extremity from the lense of radicular pathologies and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Break-Out Session

Come learn effective modalities to address upper extremity musclo-skeletal conditions, using both acupuncture and trigger point manual therapy. Learn to identify, isolate and release areas of nerve impingement, improving your results for common pain and nerve pathologies of the shoulder and arm, including periscapular pain, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), de-quervain syndrome, carpal tunnel and more.

We will focus on the upper extremity nerve pathways, along the western and Chinese musculoskeletal channels, with their origination at the lower cervical spine, traveling through the brachial plexus and creating the ulner, medial and radial distributions down the arm, as well as their areas of common neurological constriction. We will then demonstrate techniques in structural acupuncture and Tuina (Chinese manual therapy) to effectively treat these constrictions and painful conditions of the upper extremities.
