Keynote Address: "Identifying the primary underlying contributors to chronic pain

This keynote address explores the multifaceted origins of chronic pain, moving beyond symptom management to uncover the foundational factors that perpetuate persistent discomfort. Drawing on decades of clinical experience and the latest research, the speaker will guide attendees through a comprehensive framework for evaluating chronic pain, emphasizing the importance of a holistic, interdisciplinary approach.

Nancy Shaw has been practicing as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist since 1981. Of all therapists still practicing, Nancy had the longest sustained relationship with Dr. Janet Travell, the former White House physician to President John F. Kennedy. Nancy travelled, studied and lectured with Dr. Travell for eight years.

Since 1981, Nancy has Directed her own Myofascial Pain Treatment Center in Springfield, VA. She has also lectured in many local, State and National Professional conferences and as far afield as Norway and Australia.

Nancy has been featured in articles about pain treatment in both Life and the Ladies Home Journal. She has also written several books including Simple Changes to End Chronic Pain in 2013. Nancy received the “Travell Soft Tissue Management Award” from the American Academy of Pain Management in 1993; and “Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist of the Year” from the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists in 2024.

During the past 40 years she has trained several hundred students and also got to know and learn from Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. Andrew Fischer and Dr. David Simons, the most renowned Doctors responsible for developing the field of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy.
